Sushant Verma (M.Arch. Em.Tech. – AA London, B.Arch. SSAA New Delhi, MCoA India) is a London-based Indian architect, computational designer, researcher and educator currently working at Zaha Hadid Architects, London. He is the co-founder of rat[LAB]-Research in Architecture & Technology, an independent research cell based out of London, with collaborators from India and Greece. He is an associate editor for Arch2O, delivering a critical perspective on parametric design, emergence and complexity in architecture. He is also a visiting Professor / Thesis tutor for Università degli Studi di Brescia, Italy. He has previously worked at RoboFold London, focusing on development of advanced fabrication and software systems for use of robotics in architectural fabrication. He has also worked in New Delhi with a number of renowned architecture and urbanism firms and his work has been published and exhibited internationally in the United Kingdom, Europe and India. He is one of the recipients of the prestigious MAK-Schindler Residency Program Award (Los Angeles / Vienna) awarded to emerging international artists and architects.
His current research interests are focused on relationship studies between simplicity and complexity in architecture, continuing his published work on Plectic Architecture. His parallel on-going research focuses on ‘super-complexity’ and parametric design in architecture with digital-analogue fabrication and computation as primary aspects as well as computational tool development for optimizing architectural processes.
Pradeep Devadass (M.Arch. Em.Tech. – AA London, B.Arch. RVSA Bangalore, MCoA India) is an Indian architect, researcher and computational designer who earned Master of Architecture (M.Arch.) degree in Emergent Technologies & Design (Em.Tech.) from The Architectural Association (AA) School of Architecture, London in 2013 and Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) degree from RV School of Architecture, Bangalore in 2011. He has been involved with reputed architectural firms like Mathew & Ghosh Architects, Bangalore and RSP Design Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore and has worked on a number of medium and large scale projects in India. He has also worked as an assistant in Digital Prototyping Lab at the AA, possessing a good knowledge and experience of prototyping tools such as 3D printing, CNC Milling and Laser Cutting. He has also worked with RoboFold as a Computational Designer where he lead multiple product designing and architecture projects from design to fabrication and also assisted in the development of Robotics Software. His works have been published and exhibited internationally in the United Kingdom, Europe and India and is one of the recipients of the prestigious MAK-Schindler Residency Program Award (Los Angeles / Vienna) awarded to emerging international artists and architects.
His research interests revolve around digital fabrication techniques and computational tool development for architecture and is currently focussed on developing a fabrication cell for small scale and medium scale architecture.
Sushant Verma and Pradeep Devadass collectively started rat[LAB] in 2012, which is an independent research cell carrying out agenda-based short-time research centered on integration of Architecture and Technology. The collaborative research cell is currently under development process with a growing team of research consultants from various disciplines and from different parts of the world and facilitates architecture & design firms for project development using advanced computation and parametric design solutions.
